The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 2004, being a Branch of the former TEI of Kalamata. In 2013 the department was renamed from Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications to its current name and became the first department of the newly founded School of Applied Technology. The Department is located at Sparta, Laconia.
The Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Peloponnese (former TEI of Kalamata) was established by the Presidential Decree 502/1989 and its operation commenced in February 1990. The first two departments that formed the TEI of Kalamata were the Department of Health & Welfare Unit Management, and the Department of Crop Production. TEI of Peloponnese is part of the technological sector of higher education of Greece, which focuses on educating professionals of high quality applied knowledge. The theoretical and applied scientific knowledge and training of these professionals ascertains them as:
- the link between knowledge and application, developing the applied dimension of sciences and art in their respective professional fields
- holders, users and promoters of modern technology as well as of applied methods, practices and techniques.
Courses are common for all students during the first two years of their studies. Entering the fifth semester, students have to select one of the following specialization fields:
- Software Engineering
- Network Engineering
- Computer Engineering
